5 Tips for Creating a More Peaceful Home
We made it to the final week and what better way to celebrate than by cuddling in the softest of bedding, right? You guessed it, this week we’re talking about soft furnishings!
Soften the Space
Surrounding yourself with softness does wonders to your psyche. Replacing that loud blanket I mentioned earlier with a soft knit or microfiber one in a calming tone like light blue, off-white, or soft taupe will not only serve a practical purpose, it will also serve a comfortable one. Sheets are another often overlooked textile that can either make or break the serenity you’re trying to create. Invest in a nice set of thick cotton percale sheets and prepare to float to heaven. The percale weave may not initially be super soft, but given a few months they soften to perfection. Skip the flannel or jersey knit sheets. While they are soft, these are often too hot for comfortable sleeping and tend to pill over time.
Speaking of awesome sheets I’m pretty much obsessed with Brooklinen sheets. Just so you know, I haven’t been paid to endorse these sheets at all. I really just love them!
Yet another way to introduce softness into your space is by installing dimmer switches to your most frequently used lights. We have one in our living room, bedroom, and bathroom. My nighttime shower routine is now so much calmer because I crank the dimmer down to nearly off, and tada! It’s as if I’m showering by candlelight. Keeping your dimmer set to about half or lower signals to your brain that it’s time for sleep. Even better, invest in smart bulbs and have them set themselves to dim close to bedtime. That’s what we do and I bet this trick would work wonders on restless kids, too.
There ya have it, folks! These are my 5 tips for a more peaceful home. Know of any other tricks I should try? Let me know in the comments below.
