Pink Kitchens, Pink Cookies

Over the weekend my husband and I were coming back from a house showing when we decided to take a detour and check out the surrounding neighborhood. In our spur-of-the-moment adventure, we had inadvertently stumbled upon a huge mid-century modern time capsule. It was for sale and it looked…vacant! I yelped audibly as I repeated hit Adam on his arm as I tried to regain my composure. Mid Century architecture is some of my favorite and I needed in that house, like, yesterday. I seriously thought my eyes might jump out of my skull and roll right up to the front door. It was that remarkable! We’re talking angles, steel, glass, flagstone, varied elevations and a porthole! There were tennis courts, a pool, a club house, a pool house, a servant’s apartment and even horse stables, and all of this was un-freakin-touched.

As I’m struggling to get my seatbelt off and so totally trespass on the property, Adam quickly pulled up Zillow and learned that estate was in a family trust and hadn’t been cared for since its construction in 1956. By this point though I had already thrown caution to the wind and was at the glass front door peering inside at the most gorgeous entryway I had ever seen in Texas. There was a regency inspired golden staircase that swept down from the second story catwalk in one smooth motion as if to greet guests with a cheek-to-cheek kiss. At its base, 2 ft. square checkered black and white marble tiles led the way into an unbelievably soft pink formal living room. Swoon!

Every room in this house was one big surprise after another, as we discovered original wallpapers, cabinets, flooring, and even curtains. It was mid-century modern living at its very finest and it showed.

I left that day feeling totally inspired and 100% in love with that pink living room. I just knew it was going to bleed into this week’s kitchen work and sure enough here I am posting about that very color. Without dragging this obsessive post on any longer I think I should just get on with my inspirations for the week: pink kitchens! And in the spirit of Valentine’s Day I’ve tossed in an awesome pink lemonade recipe for good measure. I mean what could be better than baking pink cookies in a pink kitchen?

First up, this gorgeous green and pink combo. Consider pairing your chosen color of pink with a color opposite the color wheel in the same saturation and hue family for a 1-2 punch.

A modern take on pink is pairing it with muted shades of matte gray and the introduction of strong angles.

Rethink pink for masculine kitchens. After all, just one bold pink cabinet can take your kitchen from yawn to Yeow!

Are you having trouble convincing your significant other that a pink kitchen would be baller? Consider adding pink accents, like these pillows, to help bring in that soft hue on a less permanent basis.

Lastly, this combination of pink, white and black creates the feeling of fresh, yet orderly sophistication. Can you believe this is Ikea??

Finally, here’s the recipe from Tasty Kitchen for those delicious, gooey, pink lemonade cookies I promised you. Go ahead and make two batches. You’ll probably eat the first batch all by yourself. Don’t say I didn’t warn you!

P.S. In case you were wondering, the MCM estate we drooled all over is selling for 2.5 mil. dollars.
